Burr and Burton Media and Performing Arts Department is proud to present its popular One-Act Theater Arts Symposium on January 29 at 4:30 pm in the Riley Center for the Arts. The seven one-act plays have been written by English Department faculty members Rob Hunter, Pete Nicholson, Scott Clausen and Performing Art Department faculty member Jim Raposa, and students Bailey Ring ’14, William Johnson ‘12, Nichole Klemchuk ’13, Miyako Molinelli ‘13, Anastasia Arvin-DiBlasio ’15, Laura Amatruto ’12 and are being rehearsed under student direction in January. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at lunches this week or at burrburton.tix.com

There will be a mandatory meeting for anyone interested in being part of the spring musical Chicago on Monday, Jan. 30 at 3:00. See Jim Raposa if you have questions or can't make the meeting.

Food Drive at Jan. 25 Basketball Game: there will be a food drive at the boys' basketball game on Wednesday night, Jan. 25. Three cans of food will get you free admission to the game - all of the collected items will go to the Food Cupboard.

Congratulations to the varsity boys soccer team and Coach Mull on their heart stopping 3-2 double overtime win over Mt. Abe yesterday. The boys soccer team will be heading to the finals on Saturday Nov. 5th 1:00 at South Burlington High School.

The Football team will be heading to North Country for their semifinal match up on Friday Nov. 4th at 7:00.

★The Pursuit Of Wellness 5K Walk/Run, an independent event benefitting The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, will be held on April 16th, 2011 at Riley Rink at Hunter Park in Manchester, VT from 9AM to 1PM. This event seeks to aid the thousands of people who will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the near future by assisting in the lengthy journey towards the discovery of a cure. Registration fees are as follows: $25 for ages 15 and up, $15 ages 7-14, and ages 6 and under free.

Pancreatic cancer, an under recognized, leading cause of death amongst Americans, has no cure. An estimated 43,140 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, and over 36,800 of those diagnosed will die from the disease, making it the 4th leading cause of cancer related death in the United States. Because the symptoms of pancreatic cancer are so vague, by the time the diagnosis is made, it may be too late. Much research still remains to be done to determine earlier detection methods and more successful treatment options.

★On Tuesday, April 5 Linda Mitchell, Health Coordinator at The Dorset School will be speaking at The Collaborative's monthly coalition meeting. Linda's presentation will be from 4:00pm-5:00pm at Manchester Elementary Memorial School (MEMS) in the Jackie Parks room.

Linda is a parent educator and a licensed guidance counselor whose goal is to help students develop physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually by providing opportunities for them to acquire knowledge, skills, and behavior patterns that will enable them to reach their full potential. With April being Alcohol Awareness Month, Linda will be presenting on ways that young people can foster growth, challenge and change that encourage maturation and continued healthy decision-making in order to avoid falling into the pitfalls of alcohol and substance abuse.

Auditions for Charlotte's Web April 2

Area students in grades 7 – 12 are invited to audition for parts in the Dorset Theatre Festival's production of Charlotte's Web set for early June. Auditions will be held on Saturday, April 2, from noon – 4 pm at the Dorset Playhouse on Cheney Rd. in Dorset. Interested students should bring a short monologue or selection from something to read. It is not necessary to memorize the piece. If selected for a part in the beloved E.B. White story, students must be available for Saturday workshops in May led by Artistic Director, Dina Janis of the Dorset Theatre Festival. Beginning May 27, the student actors will join the professional cast of the play. Mark Shanahan of New York will be directing the production.
